YEAR OF THE ROOSTER

OH HELLO, YEAR OF THE ROOSTER
Welcoming in the lunar new year with a bang (from more firecrackers than your eardrums would like), festivities for the year of the rooster is in full swing; with lanterns adorning the streets of Chinatown, shopping malls and local grocers, you start to feel in the spirit of things regardless of whether you celebrate the lunar new year or not.

-->
 With one too many plates of noodles and dumplings eaten on the eve of Chinese new year, those who celebrate the festival can understand when I say that a deep sleep is the only thing that is needed after feasting.

As someone who has celebrated Chinese New Year my whole life, I've been lucky to be on the receiving end of red pocket money that had my friends envious of me whenever it hit late Jan/Feb each year. However, over the years, I've come to terms that as much as one would like, you can't stay a kid forever and it's time to start giving back instead of just receiving (and eagerly writing a to-buy list). Partnering up with Sunglass Hut this year, I've chosen one of my current favourites styles (and hands down my most frequently worn pair) to show how gifting can go beyond red pocket money.

Red isn't a colour that I would usually wear, not even on my lips, but following tradition, Chinese superstitions and mum's requests to wear something red or gold to bring in luck for the year, I went with a bright red lip (which I'm actually really loving) a red silk tie, and gold accents in hopes that it would suffice (the red hearts on my sneakers also count right?..)

May fortune and good luck be yours this lunar new year!

WHITE JEANS

THE GLORY OF ALL WHITE

Here are one of my favourite pieces that I've picked up from YOOX to date
CRISP, CLEAN, REFRESHING, BOLD-  all ways that you can describe an all white outfit.

Black on black is a no brainer, but all white outfit is one of those risky things that you admire from afar and applause and commend the wearer on their ability to stay away from red wine, pasta, green juices- basically anything that will leave a big inconspicuous stain (an hour after shooting this, I did spill some juice on my pants because being a cautious eater is not really my specialty..)
In the past, white jeans were never something that I owned and if I ever did have the urge to wear white bottoms, it would be in the form of a midi skirt, white denim skirt or a pair of wide legged trousers. Not so much for being at high risk of stains, but rather white jeans (as so stated by numerous magazines and random forums) seemed to be one of those things that were deemed unflattering and reserved for people with stick-thin model limbs. Since then, I have stopped reading those articles and avoided 'the most flattering pieces for your body' forums and rather tried things on myself to see what works and what doesn't for my body
WEARING: ACNE STUDIOS denim jeans from YOOX (similar here and here) | GUCCI Marmont bag + suede pumps
CELINE sunglasses | LARSSON JENNINGS watch

I picked these Acne jeans from YOOX, and even though I told myself all those years ago that I would never wear straight legged jeans, I'm not going to lie when I say that I really dig them. And yes, white jeans don't really have the security of slimming you down and what not that black jeans seem to have, but corny as it is, it all comes down to confidence. Really I swear. No one is going to be looking at your legs in your new white jeans and think "oh those are unflattering"- trust me on this.

So when you are tossing up the decision to wear all white or not or buy that pair of white jeans that first come to mind, I say just do it. Life's short and sometimes you have to risk it for the biscuit.
