Black Coat & Stripes

Backroom top, Honey & Beau skirt, Zara coat (similar), Karen Walker sunglasses
Proenza Schouler bag, The Peach Box bangle, ASOS plimsolls (platform version)

It's a bit late into Winter to finally find the perfect black coat, but better late than never! It's not too short or too long nor too casual or too formal-the coat is in a classic shape, which makes matching different outfits super easy. I've paired it with a striped top with a bit of mesh here and there from the online store Backroom to keep things from being too boring.

Is Vintage Really Vintage?

Similar top, Atmos & Here jeans, Windsor Smith Gillie heel

When we say something is vintage, is it really vintage? When it comes to fashion, you hear the term thrown around a lot, such as "Where's your coat from" "Oh it's vintage", where the other person would then go on to say something like "That's a shame, I wish I could buy it" or "Oh, it's such a lucky find!". According to Oxford dictionary, vintage "denotes to something from the past of high quality, especially something representing the best of its kind" so are those jumpers we find in our mum's wardrobes vintage or do we simply call it old?

On a side note, wind is not your best friend when taking photos because half the time you'll be fixing your hair or waiting for the breeze to pass. Then again, forgetting sunglasses when it's sunny results in even squintier versions of yourself, looking annoyed and well, squinty. At least with rain you can bring an umbrella or go indoors.

Fluted Skirts + Turtle Necks

 Karen Walker sunglasses, Boohoo slides

Since the last few posts have contained skirts, I felt I may as well go with the flow. I said once that I would never wear the peplum trend, but in my own defence this skirt is 'fluted' (well at least that's what I think it's called). When choosing clothes, I more often than not gravitate towards loose fitted items i.e. boyfriend jeans and loose T-shirts, but I guess structure is good once in a while; it keeps things interesting.

Feminine Skirts

There's always that one piece of clothing in our wardrobe that makes us feel really feminine and for me right now, it's this skirt by Hunt & Gather store; a quintessential silhouette from the 50s (think Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday). It's also definitely more flattering than a mini skirt, because at the end of the day, not all of us have Alexa Chung's legs that (quote Leandra Medine) "run the length of the Nile, and thighs that have elbows weeping".

This top was a quick DIY I made from a simple black T-shirt. All you have to do is cut off the bottom to whichever length you fancy, and then cut the sleeves off accordingly. That's what you gotta do when you realise last minute that you don't own a sleeveless crop top that's not tight fitting.

Shoes for Spring/Summer

4.Sam Edelman sandals  5. Topshop slingback loafers 6. Asos slides

Shoes are my weak spot and I like to change them up frequently so for me, spending copious amounts of money on a single pair isn't quite justifiable (unless they're Acne boots because everyone knows they last forever). Though, spending $5 on a pair of shoes might not be too good for your feet either; a decent price range for sandals is around $50-$100, but of course that depends on various factors such as the materials used, complexity of the style and the company etc.

Here are some options to get your feet ready for Spring/Summer + you can never go wrong with black and white. Like ever.

Culottes

Boohoo slider sandals, Karen Walker sunglasses

The last time I remember wearing something resembling Culottes was during my music performances throughout high school (orchestra, band, ensembles, you know the sort). Of course back then, I simply referred to them as 'dress pants' to avoid the possibility of flashing whilst sitting up on stage, because they still had the formality of skirts without actually having to wear a skirt, and also the practicality of jeans minus the informality of wearing jeans. We called them 'dress pants' because I'm sure if I had texted my friends saying I was going to wear Culottes to the concert, I would've received confused responses of "Culottes, what?" or "Is that a type of shoe.. or?".

When the weather becomes warmer-which it has yet to do, unless you consider daily maximums of 13 degrees to be a warm change, these will be my go to bottoms. They're perfect for those days when you want to wear shorts, but don't feel like showing all that leg action that normal shorts show.

Scenic

Clutch: Prada (from The Collective Boutique), Hat: H&M fedora (similar)Sunglasses: Karen Walker

I finally expanded out of the 1km proximity from my house to take photos because let's be honest, streets in the suburbs aren't that interesting when compared to the city. But what can I do when most of the time, I have to make use of a tripod or the occasional friend since I don't have a sibling to take photos for me. Oh the downsides of being an only child. Just kidding! Being sibling-less isn't too bad (though if you asked me 10 or so years ago I'd beg to differ) besides, I'm not sure how I would deal with sharing my space all the time.
